Biography

Vasyl Ponikarov (1929-2014) has gained international fame as a watercolor artist and has been awarded the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine, having created hundreds of impressive paintings that many collectors and watercolor experts value and hunt for.

His artistry cannot be overestimated. Done in a unique technique called
“A la prima” (on wet paper), his works capture bright and colorful life that only a maitre could envision and depict, because with this technique, there is no room for error. Artist has to meet face-to-face with only pristine white paper and watercolors.

Ponikarov`s paintings reflect the world around us that we see every single day, depicting it in nonconventional light, making this portrayal of regular life bright and saturated. His landscapes and still life demonstrate those aspects of nature that a brief human look would not be able to capture. International fine art experts gave him a title of “A King of Flowers and the Emperor of Sunflowers”.

Vasyl Ponikarov`s works have been exhibited all over the world since 1984, having visited the US, Hungary, Switzerland, Finland, Israel, Mexico, Italy, France, Japan and many other countries, never returning home without ahigh-rank award.

Even after the Maitre`s passing, his paintings continue to bring joy to those who value beauty from all over the world. The artist's family does everything possible to make the fruits of over 60 years of hard work available to the general public. People from over the globe can appreciate the artistry of Ponikarov in many galleries on all continents.
